Time and Motion Studies
Either as part of a WFM Best Practices project or as a standalone request, SSG performs time and motion studies in a unique way that fits our participative philosophy. The key difference is our use of peer group meetings to help reach internal consensus on work tasks, perceived times to complete tasks and perceived frequency. These meetings also helps with the buy in by those who are most directly affected by workforce management systems because they are involved in setting the parameters as well as understanding how the pieces of the workforce management puzzles fit together.
An example of a time and motion project for branch teller and sales is as follows:
Data Collection
- List of teller transaction types and any historical associated time standards
- 3 months of transaction history to identify top 5-10 transaction types by volume
- List of Head Teller functions
- List of teller non transaction functions
- List of platform activities, with notation as to which have data sources(Samples will be provided)
Peer Group Meetings
- Assemble five head tellers for a 1/2 day session to make group recommendations on teller transaction time standards, head teller and teller non transaction function list with associated frequency and duration
- Assemble five CSR's and/or branch managers for a ½ day session to make group recommendations on the platform activity list, along with associated frequency and duration. Will also need someone knowledgeable on the platform data system and other related data sources to help identify which activities have some form of retrievable historical data and which will need observation
Branch Observations
- Identify an appropriate number of sample high and low volume branches.
- If appropriate, Identify branches with unique set of market conditions
- Spend appropriate time in each branch making teller and sales observations to validate recommendations made by respective peer groups
- Use programmed PDA's to capture sufficient numbers of observations for each transaction type and/or sales activity.
Data Integration
- Compile observational and system data to determine appropriate time standards
- Provide function list and respective time standards
